Bookworm
Overview
Focusing on the book marketplace, I conducted user research to discover key pain points: consumers were running out of bookshelf space, didn’t want to wait weeks to borrow popular library titles, and sought a convenient way to sell used books. Additionally, many consumers were searching for a more affordable and sustainable alternative to purchasing books.
Bookworm was created as a solution to address these pain points by offering a seamless, personalized book rental and marketplace experience. Bookworm provides users with curated book deliveries based on their preferences, a marketplace for buying and selling books, personalized recommendations, and convenient rental return or purchase options.
Role: User Researcher, Product Designer, UX/UI Designer, Brand Designer
Duration: 4 Months
Goal: Create a mobile app that addresses key user needs in the book marketplace by offering a personalized, flexible solution for renting, buying, and selling books.
Research
To gain a deep understanding of user needs and pain points, I conducted interviews with individuals who frequently read books, use library services, or purchase books online. These interviews revealed key insights: users desired personalized recommendations to save time when searching for new reads, valued flexibility in renting and buying books, and appreciated the ability to buy and sell secondhand books to enhance their collections.
Prototype
The prototyping process began with a post-it note diagram to outline the app's key features and user interactions in a simple, visual format. This initial step helped organize ideas and establish relationships between app functionalities. Next, I created a detailed flow map to define the user journey and ensure smooth navigation through features like subscriptions, the marketplace, and book discovery. Finally, I translated these concepts into wireframes, focusing on simplicity and usability to guide users seamlessly through the app's interface.
Design
The design style of the Bookworm app is clean and modern, featuring a minimalist logo that cleverly combines the image of a worm with the letter "W." The geometric precision of the Futura typeface enhances the app's modern aesthetic, complementing its overall design. Terracotta and moss green were utilized to recreate the sense of warmth and coziness experienced while reading.
